Show Synopsis

Many moons ago in a far-off place, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son, Prince Dauntless, found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide to win the hand of the prince, but none could pass the impossible tests given to them by the Queen. That is, until the “shy” swamp princess, Winnifred the Woebegone, showed up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test, marry her prince and help Lady Larkin and Sir Harry to the altar? This musical, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, is a spin on the classic tale The Princess and the Pea and provides some side-splitting shenanigans. After all, a princess is a delicate thing.

Character Descriptions

PLEASE NOTE: The gender listed is the gender in which the character is traditionally presented. All roles are open to anyone regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, class, caste, religion, belief, sex, gender, language, sexual orientation or gender identity.

Queen Aggravain: Female; domineering, controlling and manipulative; mother of Prince Dauntless; a powerful presence; completely uncomfortable if all the focus is not focused on her; commands your attention, but possesses excellent comedic timing; Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano/Alto.

Prince Dauntless: Male; endearingly awkward, innocent and eager to please; child of Queen Aggravain and desperately seeking a bride, emphasis on child; Exceedingly pure and naive to a fault; you can’t help but love him; Vocal Range: Baritone/Tenor.

Princess Winnifred the Woebegone (Fred): Female; strong-willed, energetic and charismatic with a good sense of humor; not your typical princess; physical comedic brilliance is a must; immediately likable; Vocal Range: Mezzo-Belt.

Sir Harry: Male; brave, dashing and loyal; in love with Lady Larkin and committed to helping her; maybe not the brightest bulb, but his heart is made of gold; Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone.

Lady Larkin: Female; kind, gentle and compassionate; in love with Sir Harry and seeking a better life; not a shrinking violet by any means, smart and discerning; Vocal Range: Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano.

King Sextimus the Silent: Male; humorous, expressive and kind; unable to speak due to a curse; a physical comedy role; expert at storytelling through mime; strong improv skills; Non-Singing role.

Minstrel: Any gender; a talented musician and storyteller; serves as the show’s narrator; fun and quirky but often the voice of reason; Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone/Mezzo.

Jester: Any gender; quick-witted, nimble and entertaining; close friend of the Minstrel and the King; goofy with a hidden heart; Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone/Mezzo.

Wizard: Any gender; cunning, manipulative, and loyal to Queen Aggravain; vivacious and always the showman; obsessed with the Queen to a fault; they either don’t know, or don’t care that they’re unliked by most of the court; Vocal Range: Baritone/Bass/Alto.

Ensemble: Various genders; playing various roles such as knights, ladies-in-waiting and townspeople; strong singers and dancers with comedic chops.
