Audition Requirements:  The audition will consist of cold readings from the sides provided.  Sides will be available on our website soon.  These are “open call” auditions; no appointment necessary. Conejo Players is a non-profit organization, non-union, no pay. Auditioners must be 18 years of age or younger.

Plot Summary:
Margery Williams’s classic toy story gets a vibrant retelling in this brand new adaptation. When The Child gets The Rabbit for Christmas, there is disappointment in the gift. But as the two quest and adventure through The Child’s storybooks, both The Rabbit and The Child grow and care for each other. They discover that love is the greatest force in the Universe, and can make impossible things Real.

And they discover that love is the greatest force in the Universe and can make impossible things Real.

Character Descriptions:
PLEASE NOTE: The age ranges listed are the age the actor appears to be, not the actual age of the actor themselves. The gender listed is the gender in which the character is presented. Some actors will play more than one role. All roles are open to anyone regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, class, caste, religion, belief, gender, language, sexual orientation or gender identity.
The Rabbit (M or F, 10+): Wanting to become Real, this character needs to have good physical ability.  Gymnastic skills a plus.
The Child (M or F, 9+): A young child who grows older, learning what is Real.
Nana (F, 13+): A cranky but loving care-taker of The Child.
The Skin Horse (M or F, 10+): The only Real toy in the nursery.  Very wise.  A very large part for an actor capable of many emotions.
**Wind-Up Mouse (M or F, 8+):  A troublesome toy in the nursery of The Child.
**Dinosaur (M or F, 8+):   A cheeky toy in the nursery of The Child.  Should be able to speak with “attitude”.
**Model Boat (M or F, 8+):  A toy in the nursery who really thinks something of themselves.
**Timothy, the Jointed Wooden Lion (M or F, 8+):  A toy in the nursery who really should know better.
**The Sheriff of Nottingham (M or F, any age):  A villain who appears in the nursery of The Child.
**The Sheriff’s Men (M or F, any age):  Somewhat clueless, not-so-merry men who work with the Sheriff.
**The Jabberwocky (M or F, any age):  A terrifying forest creature who appears in the nursery.
**Shakespeare and Mozart (M or F, any age):  Library busts who talk in the nursery.
**Oxford Bunny and Cambridge Bunny (M or F, any age):  Bunnies who are really bunnies who appear to speak to The Rabbit.
**Doctor (M or F, 13+):  The doctor who examines The Child in the nursery.
**Any of the starred roles may be combined with other parts in the play.
