Dance Auditions: Putting Your Best Foot Forward!
In partnership with Cabrillo Music Theatre
Featuring Heather Castillo, Choreographer for Cabrillo's The Little Mermaid
 
May 25, 5-7 pm
 
Learn how to navigate dance auditions and present the best version of yourself. Understand how teaching and learning styles translate between choreographer and dancer. Begin the process of removing self-judgement and comparison so you can be open to hearing the information the choreographer is conveying. Gain knowledge about technique and genre versatility; prepare your body to be the tool you desire and respect your instrument. This is for all levels of dancers and movers! Heather will approach learning movement from multiple technique levels. This session aims to demystify the dance audition process and help the performer with knowledge and confidence.

Costuming Workshop Series with Beth Glasner

Three Wednesdays: April 6, 13, and 20, 2016, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm

This popular Conejo Players Theatre workshop is structured in a way that you'll learn something if you're only able to attend one session ... and you'll gain that much more knowledge if you attend all three sessions! The goal of our Costume Workshop is -- after three 2-hour sessions -- to leave you feeling as if you could either assist in costuming a show, or possibly feeling brave enough to do it yourself!

Session One: Discuss "The Measurement Sheet"; go through a script to determine costume needs; discuss typical costume budgets; etc.

Session Two: Explore Conejo Players Theatre's costume loft and begin costume selection based on an actor's measurements. We will also discuss alterations and cleaning.

Session Three: Use the Internet to search for costume shops and rental facilities. We will explore CPT's costume construction room; discuss fabrics & patterns for creating costumes; and finalize budget with all proper paperwork.

NOTE: A $3 material fee will be collected at the first class.

This series takes place over THREE Wednesdays. When registering, you can sign up for one, two, or all three classes. Ages 12 and up.

Set Design Workshop with John Eslick

March 12th from 1PM to 4PM
 
A well thought-out set design can enhance the storytelling of the show -- whether it’s a bare stage, a simple three-wall room, or an elaborate multi-section spectacular. This class will go over the process of how to make a set unique and practical to each production. We’ll also cover types of materials, budgeting, and scheduling, among other things. Best of all, you’ll learn how to have fun and be creative with it!
+ This workshop is for ages 16 and up.

Four Wednesdays: May 20, 27 & June 3, 10 from 5PM to 7PM
Ages 15 and up

Your music directors LOVE it when you have a little musical knowledge in your back pocket. This workshop is perfect for those who want to learn or review basic music theory from "note-reading" to the Circle of Fifths!
 
NOTE: This series takes place over FOUR Wednesdays. Please plan to attend ALL FOUR Wednesdays in order to participate fully. Each attendee will receive a set of music theory flash cards and a life-size paper piano keyboard to use.

How-Do-You-Pick-Music-For-Your-Audition Workshop with Lisa Yaldezian

Have you always been nervous about bringing sheet music to a musical theatre audition? Relied on a music-only track on CD? You could be losing out by not showing off your ability to work with a live accompanist! Join Lisa Yaldezian for an educational workshop on the do's and don'ts of audition sheet music and accompanist etiquette. Lisa will bring her own samples, as well as look over your own music to give you tips in this fun group session ...
 
NOTE: Please bring three samples of what you would normally bring for an audition.

This wildly popular and long-running Conejo Players workshop will help all levels of youngsters hone their skills in song choice, vocal technique, dance, and cold reading to help them prepare for auditions. The first Saturday is a series of mini-workshops with plenty of practice. The second Saturday, students "audition" in front of local theatre experts who give constructive feedback on their performance. The audition may not be real, but the experience is!
NOTE: This series takes place over TWO Saturdays. When registering, please sign up for BOTH days to fully participate in the workshop.
+ This workshop is for children ages 8-13.
+ Please bring a lunch, snacks, and a drink on both Saturdays.

Sound Workshop with Jeremy Zeller

April 12th from 2pm to 4pm

Have you ever walked by a theatre soundboard before a show begins and thought to yourself (or asked aloud), "What do all those knobs do?" Well, now's your chance to find out through Conejo Players Theatre's Sound Technician workshop -- lead by CPT's Executive Technical Director, Jeremy Zeller.

You'll learn all you need to know about running sound for a live theatrical production, including: wireless and wired microphones; monitors and speakers; sound boards, and their accompanying EQ and balance issues; and more! Learn what it takes to run a show from start to finish so both actors and audience can hear ... and no one goes deaf! Sign up today!
