Rehearsal Schedule:
July 22nd through September 20th, Monday through Thursday -- with occasional Fridays and Saturdays. (Rehearsal schedule will be created based on cast availability.) Please also consider all days within the time frame of September 21 through September 29 when thinking about potential conflicts.

Audition Requirements: 

Please prepare one minute of a musical theatre song not from the show. Bring sheet music in your key, or an accompaniment CD with no words; an accompanist will be provided. Bring dance clothes and shoes. All auditioners will sing, learn a short choreography routine, and read from the script.
Sides from the show will be provided. Please be prepared to stay for the entirety of the night. "Open call" audition; no appointment necessary. Non-union, NO PAY.

Plot Summary: 

Eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts, sets about restoring an old race car with the help of his children Jeremy and Jemima. They soon discover the car is magic, and has the ability to float and take flight. When the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magic car for himself, the family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and Grandpa Potts to outwit the dastardly Baron and Baroness and their villainous henchman, the Child Catcher.

Character Breakdown: 

**PLEASE NOTE: This is a Conejo Players Youth Theatre production. Only Auditioners of ages 18 and under will be considered for any roles; however within those guidelines the age ranges posted are only a suggestion. Any Ethnicity will be considered for any role. **

CARACTACUS POTTS -- An eccentric and brilliant English inventor and loving single father. His inventions and children are his life. Versatile actor, charming, personable. Part of a close family unit with Grandpa, Jeremy and Jemima. Falls in love with Truly Scrumptious. Gender: Male. Age: 12-18.

JEREMY POTTS -- Caractacus’s young son. Part of a close family unit with Caractacus and Grandpa. A twin, he is happy, sweet, and adventurous with a vivid imagination. Gender: Male. Age: 5-12.

JEMIMA POTTS -- Caractacus’s young daughter. Part of a close family unit with Caractacus and Grandpa. A twin, she is happy, sweet, and adventurous with a vivid imagination. Gender: Female. Age: 5-12.

TRULY SCRUMPTIOUS -- Daughter of the famous candy maker, Lord Scrumptious. Strong, smart, independent, spirited, and kind. Accompanies Caractacus and the children on their adventures with Chitty, and falls in love with them all. Gender: Female. Age: 12-18.

GRANDPA -- Caractacus’s father, a former British soldier who still loves and lives his army days. Part of a close family unit with Caractacus, Jeremy and Jemima. Winning personality and easy charm, comic skills, charming vocal style. Gender: Male. Age: 12-18

BARON -- Tyrannical ruler of Vulgaria who cannot stand to lose. Collects toys and insists on being spoiled. German-like accent a plus. Gender: Male. Age: 12-18.

BARONESS -- The wife of the Baron. Along with her Vulgarian husband, a hater of children. Dramatic and beautiful. German-like accent a plus. Gender: Female. Age 12-18.

BORIS and GORAN -- Members of the two-person team of Vulgarian goons that work for the Baron and Baroness. Not too on the ball as a spy. German-like accent a plus. Gender: Any. Age 12-18.

COGGINS -- Kind-hearted scrapyard owner who lets the Potts children play with Chitty. Gender: Any. Age: 12-18. This role will double as ensemble.

JUNKMAN -- The Junkman who is mean and a bit scary wants to buy Chitty and destroy the car for junk metal. Gender: Male. Age: 12-18. This role may be doubled with the Child Catcher and will also be ensemble.

CHILD CATCHER -- The Childcatcher makes sure that the streets of Vulgaria are child-free. Gender: Male. Age: 12-18. This role may be doubled with the Junkman and will also be ensemble.

LORD SCRUMPTIOUS -- The large looming father of Truly and owner of the Scrumptious Candy factory. Need an actor with a good stage presence. Age: 12-18. Gender: Male. This role may be doubled with Sid and will also be ensemble.

SID -- A quick-tempered funfair patron. Age: 12-18. Gender: Male. This role may be doubled with Lord Scrumptious and will also be ensemble.

MISS PHILLIPS -- The no-nonsense personal assistant of Lord Scrumptious. Age 12-18. Gender: Female.

VIOLET -- The wife of Sid. Age: 12-18. Gender: Female. This role will double as ensemble.

TOYMAKER -- The out-of-work Vulgarian toymaker. Down on his luck he helps Caractacus and his family in their time of need. Age: 12-18. Gender: Any. This role will double as ensemble.

GRETA, MARTA, and TOBY -- Three children hiding from the child catcher. Age: 5-12. Gender: Two Female and One Male. These roles will double as ensemble.

TURKEY FARMER -- An enthusiastic farmer who buys Caractacus’s invention. Age: 12-18. Gender: Any. This role will double as ensemble.

The ensemble will include a multitude of roles including: Townspeople, Chefs, Factory Workers, Soldiers, Vulgarians, and Morris Dancers.
