Evan Goldman is about to turn 13, and he can't wait. His life seems full of possibilities -- that is, until his parents get divorced and he's forced to move with his mom from big-city New York to small-town Appleton, Indiana. If Evan can't get the coolest kids to come to his bar mitzvah, how is he going to survive the school year -- not to mention, the rest of his life? As Evan navigates the world of cool kids and nerds, jocks and cheerleaders, first kisses and heartbreak, he comes to understand "What It Means to Be a Friend." With a bright, catchy pop score from Jason Robert Brown, equal doses of humor and pathos, and a cast of wildly talented teens, 13 is irresistible to grown-ups and almost-grown-ups alike. ~ RATED PG

Evan: Lead, Strong Mover; Tenor, High Note - A#4/Bb4 / Low Note - A#2/Bb2
He is smart and sarcastic. He is a unique blend of optimism and angst. He's funny, ironic, confident, sensitive, and almost ready to become the man. He is a bit nerdy, but looking for a place to truly fit in -- and he thinks that's with the popular kids.
*Funny, hopeful, determined, a good friend, intelligent.
Patrice: Lead, Mover; Mezzo-Soprano, High Note - E5 / Low Note - D#3/Eb3
She is quirky, offbeat, and some might say geeky. She thinks Appleton, Indiana, is the lamest place in the world and dreams of planning an escape and moving somewhere with more opportunities. Sensitive, playful, emotional, smarter than most, and just wants to be understood by someone she understands. Needs strong voice.
*Giving, supportive, optimistic, mature, an old soul, believable.
Archie: Supporting, Non-Dancer; Tenor, High Note - Bb4 / Low Note - Ab2
Suffers from muscular dystrophy and is confined to using crutches to help him walk. With all he's been through, Archie has a great perspective on life. He is self-confident and has great comedic timing. He has a crush on Kendra, and is awkward in his approach to let her know.
*Unpopular, good-natured, self-aware, mature, differently-abled, brave, fun, optimist, confident, determined.
Brett: Supporting, Mover; Tenor, High Note - C5 / Low Note - A#2/Bb2
He is the cool jock of the school. He is not very bright, but everyone respects him and wants to be his friend. Brett is the leader of the pack; captain of the football team, he has his eye on Kendra, the head cheerleader. He picks on others and can be a bully.
*Dumb, charming, manipulative, charismatic, self-important, popular.
Lucy: Supporting, Dancer, Mezzo-Soprano-HIGH NOTE-D5, LOW NOTE-F#3/Gb3
She is a mean, popular girl, and a true diva. She is queen of the school and decides where people fit in this hierarchy. She stops at nothing to get what she wants, and is more materialistic than moral. She is smart, stylish, and knows exactly how to manipulate her friends.
*Overpowering, destructive, bossy, powerful
Kendra: Supporting, Dancer; Mezzo-Soprano, High Note - D5 / Low Note - A#3/Bb3
She is a popular girl, but naive and impressionable. She is the beautiful head cheerleader. She is sweet, bubbly, and perky. She is an airhead, but sweet at heart. Her body has matured faster than her awareness of it. She has always been in Lucy's shadow. She walks the line between moral and mean; her personality isn't strong enough for her to stand up for what's right, even when she's knows that her best friend is wrong.
Cassie: Featured, Strong Mover; Mezzo-Soprano, High Note - E5 / Low Note - F#3/Gb3
She is a great student, the leader of almost every club. She is a total gossip girl. Cassie has a very big solo in "Brand New You." Needs strong, confident belt voice.
*Stylish, smart, type-A, a leader, intelligent, social, an overachiever, driven, ambitious.
Charlotte: Featured, Strong Mover; Soprano, High Note - F5 / Low Note - A#3/Bb3
She is a typical girl. She likes to text and hang out with friends. Very gullible and believes almost anything anyone tells her. She loves to spread a good rumor. Needs belt voice.
*Perky, follower, popular, gullible.
Eddie: Featured, Mover; Tenor, High Note - C5 / Low Note - A#2/Bb2
Eddie is overly dramatic. He tells Brett everything. He makes sure he is always gathering gossip on the other kids.
*Popular, bossy, mean, loyal, brash, cool, sidekick, demanding, fiery, devoted.
Malcolm: Featured, Mover; Baritone, High Note - C5 / Low Note - F#3/Gb3
A real sidekick and follower. Fast talking, confident, and charming. He is basically unaware of the world around him. Must have good comic timing.
*Popular, funny, clueless, cool.
Molly: Featured, Strong Mover; Mezzo-Soprano, High Note - E5 / Low Note - F#3/Gb3
She is cool, hip, and confident. She's the girl that loves gossip, loves to start a rumor, gets into everyone's business, and then steps back to watch as it all breaks loose. She knows everything about everyone, and is the source of all school information. Needs belt voice.
*Popular, immature, funny, a friend, self-confident, dramatic.
Richie: Featured, Mover; High Tenor, High Note - C5 / Low Note - A3 (falsetto to reach high F)
He is outgoing -- the class clown and a goofball. He is out there, everywhere, in perpetual motion. He is very likeable and is a big social kind of guy. He likes to be in the middle of everything. Needs crisp, clear voice.
*Likeable, off-the-wall, overwhelming.
Simon: Featured, Mover; Tenor, High Note - C5 / Low Note - F#3/Gb3
He is the quiet, unassuming kid that just wants to get by, yet finds himself in the middle of everything; the guy that can get the girls to flirt with him just by being himself -- even though the girl he really wants is Charlotte. But he doesn't do much about it, because he thinks she doesn't like him. He's the guy in Brett's shadow on the team, but is always there as his back-up.
*Honest, timid, unassuming, shy, kind, self-conscious, smart.
Ensemble: All must look in their early teens, and must be able to dance and sing on pitch.
