The Characters...

NOTE: Characters are listed in the order they appear in the play...
NARRATOR:
Male, character actor, MUST PLAY AN INSTRUMENT [preferably guitar or banjo... will consider piano; harmonica is an added plus...]. he speaks directly to the audience throughout the play, so he must quickly establish a warm rapport with them. When he is not narrating, he sits to one side of the stage and watches the action and like the audience, he reacts to the scenes and applauds the performers.

QUEENIE:
Female, character comedienne, with a lusty belt quality. Must move well. She is a raucous, as well as a glamorous dance hall queen who becomes Snow White's Stepmother. She is vain and domineering, and becomes the jealous, comedic villainess when her Magic Mirror proclaims Snow White the fairest of all. She later disguises herself as a spanish peddler selling combs, and again as an indian squaw selling apples. Like her counterpart Sneaky Sam, her character is at times melodramatic.

MAGIC MIRROR: NOTE: non-singing role
Female -- this role is an offstage voice that will only be seen in silhouette. She is warm, quick witted and quite humorous, and tries to be the voice of reason to Queenie, to no avail. Excellent comedic timing required.

HANK:
JAKE:
MIKE:
CHUCK:
PETE:
SLIM:
SHORTY:
Male; The seven gold-mining brothers are all character comedy roles, and vocally are a combination of Tenor, Baritone, and Bass [as indicated above]. Brothers sing frequently in tight harmonies with each other. All seven brothers should have dancing ability. HANK is the kindly leader of the group, and SHORTY is the lovable, leading comedy role. JAKE, MIKE, CHUCK, PETE and SLIM all have unique character qualities.

JOE PRINCE:
Male; He is the handsome western hero with a dazzling smile and a bit of a swagger in his walk. He is the owner of the Prince Mines, and becomes the Marshal of the territory. The actor should be careful not to play him as a caricature, but as genuine, honest, and believable as possible.

SNOW WHITE:
Female; should move well and have dancing ability. She should be very pretty, and should be played with warmth and honesty -- not a caricature.

MR. WHITE/SNEAKY SAM [same actor doubles on both roles]:
MR. WHITE - Male; he is a kindly and spry old prospector type who, with his daughter Snow, comes to the old west to find gold. He has only one brief scene early in Act 1; and
SNEAKY SAM - Male; farcical character actor - He is Queenie's henchman, and must be played with swift, comedic, sneaky moves. This character is melodramatic; with outrageous facial expressions, and an energetic, enthusiastic delivery of lines.

And the Rest [aka 'The Jargon']...

All roles are “open.” As the Conejo Players Theater is a Community Theater, this is a “no pay” production.
Production Staff, Tech Crew and Running Crew positions are currently available.

Please bring a picture and resume. If you don’t have one, you may list your experience on the back of our audition form.

As mentioned above, please bring an extra copy of the sheet music for your audition for the Production Team.

Please bring a list of ANY AND ALL POSSIBLE CONFLICTS with rehearsal schedule, as stated above. As mentioned previously, conflicts are not allowed for performances or for Tech Week [the week prior to the opening of the show (November 16th - November 19th)].

A rehearsal schedule will be posted at the audition table.
